Nutriera experts were invited to give a keynote presentation at MILAS 2018

 On June 23rd-25th 2018, the 3rd Mandalay International Livestock and Agriculture Show (MILAS 2018) was grandly held at Mandalay, the second-largest city of Myanmar. Nutriera experts were specially invited to give a keynote presentation about Aquaculture.

During the 3-day of MILAS, there was a forum on investment of Upper Myanmar Agriculture and Agri-based Industries. The forum was attended by the Chairman of Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry, experts related to livestock farming, feed and processing sections of upper Myanmar, representatives from international organizations like SAPA, USAID, and industry friends from Southeast Asia.

The seminar on Upper Myanmar Fishery Development was held on June 25th. Dr. U Nay Soe, the vice Chairman of Myanmar Fishery Federation, Dr. U Paw Lwin, the Director of Department of Fisheries, Dr. Myint Swe, the Secretory of Myanmar Fish Farmers Association, and some other leaders gave speeches at the seminar ceremony. Mr. Steve Shaw, the Technical Manager from international business department of Nutriera Group, was invited to give a keynote presentation named “Opportunities and Challenges in Myanmar Aquaculture”. Nutriera was the unique enterprise being invited to give a speech at this seminar.

In the presentation, Mr. Steve Shaw mainly analyzed the present status of Myanmar aquaculture, potential culture species, and the prospects of seafood export to Chinese market. In addition, he proposed practical solutions to the current challenges in developing Myanmar aquaculture. His presentation struck a strong chord among the listeners. At the end of his presentation, 2 hours of interactions and communications was added in response to the audience’s strong request.

 Mandalay, the capital of Mandalay Region, is the second-largest city and the last royal capital of Myanmar. It is the economic, cultural and traffic center of Upper Myanmar.

Myanmar is rich in fishery resources, with a lot of inland lakes. There is great potential in cooperation with foreign countries due to the limitations in capital, capture, process and farming technologies. Myanmar has 2,832 square kilometers of coastline, its exclusive economic zones is 486,000 square kilometers. There are 225,700 square kilometers waters suitable for capture, with 1.05 million tons of annual capture production.

Myanmar has special advantages in developing seawater and freshwater aquaculture. There are more than 500 kinds of fish and crustacean species and 105 species among them have economic values. Myanmar has 8.2 million hectares of inland lakes and rivers with a large number of wild freshwater fish and crustaceans. As for aquaculture, presently, Myanmar has 182,400 acres of fresh water pond and 205,000 acres of shrimp pond. The seawater aquaculture is mainly consist of shrimp farming.
